Every movement has to be recorded

The number on screen is only as good as the movements behind it. If goods leave the shelf without a corresponding transaction — a quick sample, an unlogged return, a "I'll enter it later" — the system cannot know. The fix is less about Odoo and more about a discipline: nothing moves without a movement recorded.

Use the right operations, not workarounds

Odoo has proper mechanisms for the things businesses often fudge: internal transfers, scrap, inventory adjustments, and returns. Using them keeps the audit trail intact. Forcing those situations through a sales order or a manual edit is what corrupts the count.

Count regularly, in cycles

A single annual stock-take is a blunt instrument. Cycle counting — checking a small subset of items on a rolling schedule — catches drift early and keeps confidence high all year without ever shutting down the warehouse.

Trustworthy inventory is a habit before it is a feature. The software keeps the score; your process decides whether the score is true.

Make the data visible

When the team can see live stock levels and the history behind them, accuracy becomes self-reinforcing — people notice and fix discrepancies instead of quietly working around them. Reorder rules and clear reporting turn the inventory module from a ledger into an early-warning system.
